New economy: PROUT

Spirituality is not only about one’s own physical, mental and spiritual development. It is equally about the welfare and well being of others. We say in yoga, human beings of the whole universe are one family. Naturally, spiritual people will have to think for the welfare of all those in society so that everyone gets the opportunity for their all round development. On our small planet today we are very far from that ideal and humanity and the living world is bleeding… To address this unpardonable situation Shrii P.R. Sarkar developed the Progressive Utilisation Theory, or PROUT.

Prout is a social and economic theory based on economic democracy, rational distribution of wealth and regional self-reliance. Prout supports a strong centralised government and an equally strong, decentralised, mostly cooperative-based economy. Prout insists on ethical (benevolent) leadership, facilitating social progress in all spheres of life, leading to the welfare and happiness of all.

Shrii Sarkar was very clear that when a society starts on the path of corruption and exploitation then, in the interests of human welfare, that system needs to be replaced with a new system. Writing in the 1950s he believed that both the communist and capitialist systems had already reached advanced stages of degeneration and need to be replaced. Prout  is based on economic democracy. Prout is a post-capitalist, post-communisty socio-economic system which is urgently needed today everywhere.
